Seasons and Moments Captured in Time: Photography by Tracy Heerhold

Meet The Artist Reception: Saturday, December 5  1:00-3:00 PM

The combination of photography and digital painting allows Tracy Heerhold to not only preserve a moment in time but also enhance those moments with a creative vision as well.

Tracy's love of photography stems from her interest in a variety of subjects including rural landscapes, seasonal conditions, travel and historic architecture. Whenever possible, Tracy enjoys the thrill of taking photos of the same locations in different seasons to fully appreciate them throughout he year.

Tracy lives in Jackson, Wisconsin and has been involved in digital art and photography for a number of years. Her work combines both photography and digital printing, which is essentially painting using software on a computer. Tracy uses the digital painting component to fully achieve a vision that she has in mind upon noticing and experiencing a subject through a camera lens.

Tropicana: Artwork by Mike O'Connell

Meet The Artist Reception: Saturday, April 17   1:00-3:30 PM
with musical guest, Rakes of Mallow

The recurrent themes of Mike O'Connell's work are the silent sports. With oils applied in the classic illustrator style, he has executed hundreds of paintings with cyclists, riders, climbers, hikers, birders and sunbathers. His current exhibit of tropical birds are some of the work painted after winter trips since 2006. He made visits to the Pacific Coast of Mexico and Costa Rica in search of new species. Often in the jungles, the birds are seriously difficult to spot, so in some of the paintings, the viewer will have to work at finding the species as well.

O'Connell studied art and composition at the Academia International in Guadalajara. He has exhibited work in the Midwest for 23 years and has made a career of it for the past twelve. His work has been acquired by patrons from 40 states and 5 countries.

Nature's Kaleidoscope: Photography by Brian Wolf

Meet The Artist Reception and Book Signing: Saturday, June 5   1:00-3:00 PM

Brian Wolf has been photographing nature for many years. His camera and tripod accompany him wherever he goes, so as not to miss an opportunity. Like many photographers, he switched from film to digital several years ago and with that came a greater expansion of his photography. To accomplish the many aspects of nature photography he regularly uses wide angle, telephoto and macro lenses. Simply changing a lens for the same scene can dramatically alter the perspective.

Brian's current exhibit features sunrises and sunsets. He states, "While the rising and setting of the sun does wonderful things to the landscape, I particularly like the colorful effects it has on the clouds. When photographing those scenes reflecting over water you truly get a kaleidoscope effect that is produced by nature."

Brian enjoys sharing his photos with others by designing Christmas cards, calendars and note cards, to name a few. A recent hardbound coffee table book, "Lingering...Soulful Reflections", showcases his photography. Judie Dancing has written verses that were generated directly by his photos.

Closer Look: Drawings by Christina Roberts

Meet The Artist Reception: Saturday, August 7   12:00-3:00 PM

Growing up, Christina Roberts was introduced to art through her mother, a self-taught artist. Art followed Christine through her high school years, giving her a place to seek refuge. Roberts went on to major in drawing in painting at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago in addition to a Botanical Art certificate from the Morton Arboretum.

The bulk of this exhibit will be from a series Christine has been working on titled, "Drawings from the Waters Edge" done in ink, using a stippling or pointillism technique. The pieces are from memory recordings of her excursions near water. Along with these pieces will be small works done in the same technique which she calls, "natures little gems". Again, things found in nature that deserve a closer look.

While exploring most places, Christina's head is usually down, investigating what lies at her feet. Roberts states, "The word 'landscape' to me is not solely that grand vista often seen on postcards, but instead what we train our eye to see. These images are my landscapes".

Paintings by Todd Starks

Meet The Artist Reception: Saturday, October 2  1:00-3:00 PM

Todd has always been a sensory person. His earliest memories are of sights and smells, and of course, feelings associated with them. He began drawing as far back as he can remember. His first pictures were of boxy-looking cars, then of animals, his father’s semi, and later in life, colored pencil figures.

Experimenting with different careers, including working for a short time as a registered nurse, Todd eventually returned to his true calling, completing his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at The College of Visual Arts in St. Paul, Minnesota. Since completing his degree, Todd has been pursuing, and finally achieved, his dream career as an artist and painter in rural, Southern Wisconsin. Today, Todd’s work can be found in public institutions and private collections across the United States.

Todd Starks creates paintings using a variety of visual languages to talk about emotional space, shape, color, pattern and humor. With a painterly style, Starks carefully builds up impasto layers, using wet into wet oil paint, and allowing shards of underpainting to show through. Formally, the pieces are about composition, color harmonies, shape, and texture, yet each piece reveals a sensory and spiritual connection to the landscape around him, and a dynamic interplay between conscious and subconscious thought.
